Writing an "About Me" page

While I was scheduling the shoot with my photographer, this exact conversation played out.

Me: What’s your email? I should have my about me page finished today and I’ll send it over!
Alex: YES, that’d be a huge help!

I’ll spare you the use of emojis, but will give you this life tip: always find someone to collaborate with that has a good use of emojis. You know you can trust them.

I digress.

That was a Monday. I'm now writing this on a Wednesday and I haven’t started my "about me" page yet. So, as I sit here on hour two of trying to figure out what I’m all about (internet wise...well… yup still figuring out what I’m all about in life too…) I’m really f***ing frustrated.

The worst part is:

I really want to get this done. I’ve gone back and forth on if I should table it to tomorrow. In the last 30 minutes I’ve researched and researched other blog’s about me pages, I texted my designer with a pitiful “this shit is hard” message,  texted Alex apologetically that it may not get done by Saturday, and yet I still want to get it done today. So badly.

This is a real life example of how the most effortless-looking things take the most effort.

I think I’m going to try doing an exercise to help.
This is actual real time brain dumping:

Purpose at hand: Communicate the purpose of the blog right now in a clear, concise way. Show personality.

I’m going to reference the sheet my designer sent over to help her understand my goals. This was a fun activity because it forced me to think about things I didn’t realize go into branding. Found some cool info:

I want the brand to represent freedom. By nature I’m a free friggin’ bird that is most comfortable by change and the freedom to do whatever-the-heck-I-want.
Core values of the brand are to be authentic, inquisitive and healthy (mind, body, and soul)
I want to BE my brand (how’s that for vague?) I think what I meant here is I don’t want to force where I go naturally with what my brand is on paper- my brand will always evolve with me.
I love birds
Obsession with cliche quotes (but first...coffee)

Okay, good start me (high five)

Attempt/Draft #1

Free as a bird
(lifestyle photo with bird tattoo)
Note to self- text Alex you need a tattoo photo. Or use your boyfriend’s Iphone7

Crickets. Going back to researched blogs

Should add greeting and my name. Even though my name is literally the URL.
how granular do I get with this?

Okay...try again. Headline is ok. Go for paragraph:

Hi, I’m Terressa and I’m so glad you’re here. I’m the free spirited type that just can’t seem to let things go. If I have a question, I’m going to ask it. If I have an idea, I’m going to try it. Although I went to college for marketing, I have wanderlust you can’t deny and I’m on top of the newest health trends as a personal trainer.

You can follow my ramblings on SnapChat and those oh-so-natural pictures on Instagram

Well, that wasn't so hard. lol.

You can see the final vision here, and next week I'll share the marketing ninjas I sent the first draft to, along with their feedback. It was an awesome experience, I'd reccomend sending work to people every time you have a hard decision to make- the ideas that come out of it are fantastic!
